Tomar
is
home to the UNESCO listed Convento do Cristo, which was constructed
by the Knight Templars in the 12th century.
Tomar attracts thousands of visitors each year
to marvel at this monument, which almost entirely intact.
Tomar has around 40,000 inhabitants and is
a lively, vibrant and cosmopolitan city with a variety of
restaurants, cafes and bars.
There are a wealth of activities on offer
in and around Tomar including bowling, sailing, horse riding, ski
diving, canoeing, fishing and of course visiting the many monuments.
Although steeped in history, Tomar caters for all ages
though with both a cinema and bowling alley as well as open
air swimming pools and lido and a variety of manicured parks
to enjoy the bird and animal life.
Tomar is easy to locate and only around and hour and a
quarter from Lisbon airport, which is accessible by either
bus, train or car.
