Nazaré
on Portugal's Silver Coast,
is only an hour and a half from Casa das Flores Bed &
Breakfast.
Nazaré, which was one a small
fishing village, is now a popular seaside destination for many and
makes a delightful day out.
During the August, the traditional month
most Portuguese go on holiday, Nazaré's population swells
dramatically and it can be difficult to find a spot on the vast
sandy beaches never mind a parking space.
However you can always take the funicular
to the town's historic centre, the Sitio, and marvel at the
views over the bay.
Although tourism is the main industry in
Nazaré now fishermen still ply their trade and you will see the
colourfully painted fishing boats on the beach.
The Praia (Beach) is a mix of modern style
high rise apartment blocks and hotels though there are a number of
historic buildings still in place along the promenade.
Don't forget to look out for the
fisherwomen though when in Nazaré, wearing their famous
'seven skirts' and headscarves.
